Operations Gate
Pre-advise Empty
Pre-advise Empty form
The Pre-advise Storage Empty Container form enables you to pre-advise empty containers destined for storage at the facility. See where this task fits in the Gate Operations process (on page 1).
Typically, a trucker would pre-advise an empty container before arriving at the terminal to make sure the transaction will succeed and to make the gate transaction go more quickly. Some facilities require that the empty storage containers be pre-advised before they arrive at the facility.
For pre-advising export containers, use the Pre-advise Export Container form (on page 1).
To pre-advise a storage empty container:
In the Equipment Number field, enter the equipment number for the empty container being pre-advised.
If the specified equipment exists, N4 automatically fills in the Equipment Type and the Line Operator fields.
If the specified equipment exists and is already pre-advised for the current facility with the same category and outbound carrier, N4 automatically fills in the existing container information in the form fields.
If the specified equipment exists with a different category and outbound carrier, N4 creates a new unit facility visit for the specified equipment.
If the specified equipment does not exist in the system and the check digit calculation fails, N4 displays the Action form. In the Action form, re-enter the equipment number and select the equipment type.
In the Equipment Type lookup field, select or edit the equipment type for the empty container, if missing or incorrect.
In the Line Operator lookup field, select the line operator for the empty container, if missing or incorrect.
From the Carrier Mode drop-down list, select Train or Truck as the inbound carrier mode for the container.
If RLRAIL001 (RAIL_VERSION) is set to NO_RAIL, N4 does not display the Train option in the Carrier Mode drop-down list.
Optionally, in the Carrier Id field, enter the ID that uniquely identifies the inbound carrier such as the trucking company ID or the train visit ID.
Optionally, in the Unit Notes field, enter any notes.
Click Save.
From the Pre-advise Storage Empty Container form, you can click to launch the Unit Inspector for the selected unit.
When successful, N4:
Lists the pre-advised unit in the Unit Units
Units view and the Gate
Pre-advised Units
Pre-advised Units view.
Automatically sets the unit’s Gross Weight equal to its Tare Weight and then pre-advises the unit.
Records the UNIT_PREADVISED event for the unit. You can use the History, Events tab in the Unit Inspector to view the details of the event.
An empty storage unit that was brought in through the gate will have the outbound declared visit defined as GEN_CARRIER and the outbound declared mode as UNKNOWN until the storage unit gates out. As the outbound details of the storage unit which was brought in through the gate will not be known even when you preadvise the unit in N4.
The vessel details will be updated for the outbound declared visit and outbound declared mode for the unit(s) which are received through the gate as export full.
